Position Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate early intervention professional to support families of children with hearing loss through direct therapy, parent coaching, and collaborative service planning. This role involves managing a caseload, maintaining detailed documentation, and delivering flexible services across home, center-based, and teletherapy settings. The ideal candidate will thrive in a multidisciplinary team, engage in professional development, and contribute to program presentations and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a designated caseload and maintain accurate and timely records and reports for each enrolled family which include weekly session summaries, biannual assessments, periodic video recordings, LENA (Language Environmental Analysis) recordings and other evaluations as deemed appropriate for each family.
  • Conduct routine-based therapy sessions with each family which include parent coaching, support counseling and education regarding hearing loss, listening and spoken language, behavior management and child development.
  • Create therapy lesson plans, to include carry-over strategies and skills for the home environment. Demonstrate flexibility in service delivery to include: Teletherapy; center-based and home visits.
  • Meet with audiologists and SLPs regularly to schedule evaluations and collaborate regarding any concerns. Meet biannually or as needed with the Parent Infant Program Director to review progress and work-related matters.
  • Assist staff audiologists, when requested, in aided and unaided hearing evaluations of children on your caseload and cochlear implant speech processor MAPping sessions.
  • Collaborate with local Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Therapists and local and surrounding areas Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teachers.
  • Provide families with information about available financial assistance programs at the local, state, and national levels and support them in navigating and completing the various application processes.
  • Prepare comprehensive final reports or program summaries to support smooth transitions as families move to another agency, program, or preschool.
  • Supervise graduate students who are seeking Early Intervention experience and mentor Listening and Spoken Language Specialist candidates as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Parent-Infant team to develop and deliver professional presentations. Facilitate Parent Group Meetings on a rotating basis.
  • Keep abreast of current research and new information in the field of early childhood development and audiology, specifically as it relates to early brain development research, parenting and caregiving, aural habilitation, and language and speech facilitation.
  • Actively engage in required meetings, events, and campus committees as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Assist with drop-off and pick-up process to ensure the safety, efficiency and smooth transition of students, while enforcing school policies and communicating effectively with parents and guardians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Individual must possess a master’s degree in deaf education from an accredited university.
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ proven experience with Listening and Spoken Language practices is preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.


Certificates/Licenses:

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate is preferred.
  • Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert. AVT or AV Ed.) certification is preferred. If not currently certified, certification must be obtained within 5 years of hire date.


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work early in the mornings, late evenings and travel off-site which may require driving a personal vehicle.
